Why an Open Trip
01

Why an Open Trip

An open trip is a shared charter: you book a cabin (or a bed in a shared cabin) on a phinisi alongside other travellers, paying a per-seat rate instead of chartering the whole vessel. The itinerary is fixed and the departure dates are scheduled in advance — usually three or four departures per week in high season.

It is the most affordable way to experience an overnight Komodo charter, and the social format suits solo travellers, couples, and small groups of friends who don’t need full privacy.

What’s the Same as a Private Charter
02

What’s the Same as a Private Charter

The boat, the food, the crew, the route — all identical to a private 3D2N. You sleep in a proper cabin (private or twin shared), the on-board chef prepares all meals, the captain follows the same proven route through the park’s greatest stops. The only differences are: you share the boat with other travellers, the schedule is fixed, and the per-person price is roughly half of a private charter at small-group sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

How many people on an open-trip boat?

Typically 8–14 travellers, plus 4–6 crew. The boat is large enough that the group never feels cramped and small enough that everyone gets to know each other by Day 2.

02

Can I share a cabin with a stranger?

Solo travellers are offered twin-share cabins matched by gender. A single-cabin upgrade is available at a surcharge if you prefer privacy.

03

How often do open trips depart?

Three to four departures per week in high season (May–October), two per week in shoulder season, weekly in low season. Booking 2–4 weeks ahead is recommended.

04

Can I book a private charter at open-trip prices?

Only if you book the entire boat — usually 8 paid cabins = full private charter. We can quote both formats so you can compare.
