Compare Komodo Charter Trips

Side-by-side comparison of every charter format we run — day trip, 2D1N speedboat, overnight phinisi, dive liveaboard — so you can pick the right one before you ask for a quote.

In Short

Picking the right Komodo charter format is the single biggest decision of the trip. This page lays the options side-by-side — what each format covers, what it costs, who it’s built for, and where it falls short — so you can decide between day trip, speedboat overnight, multi-day phinisi, and dive liveaboard before you ask for a quote.

01

How to Pick — A Decision Tree

Have only 1 day? Komodo Day Trip (dragons, Padar, mantas, all in one). Stays close to harbour for late flights.

Have 2 days but want to sleep at a hotel? 2D1N Speedboat Tour — covers everything a day-trip does, with hotel overnight in Labuan Bajo.

Solo / couple, want overnight on boat, budget-conscious? Open Trip 3D2N — shared phinisi, fixed dates, the cheapest overnight charter.

Group of friends or family, 3–5 days? Private 3D2N or 4D3N phinisi — per-person cost drops fast with 6–10 guests.

Honeymoon? Private 3D2N–5D4N on a boutique phinisi, with the master suite set up for two.

Serious diver? 5D4N+ phinisi (8–12 dives) or 7-night liveaboard (18–24 dives).

Group of 24–44, corporate or wedding? Luxury Cruise vessel — conference space + cabin capacity.

02

The Five Filters We Use to Recommend

When you send a quote request we run through five questions to narrow the options:

1. How long? Drives format (day vs overnight vs week).

2. How many people? Drives boat size (cabin count + capacity).

3. What budget per person or per boat? Drives vessel tier (boutique / mid / flagship).

4. What style? Family / dive / honeymoon / wellness / corporate — drives vessel choice and itinerary tweaks.

5. When? Season drives price and which vessels have availability.

03

Per-Person vs Per-Boat Pricing — How It Works

Open trips and day trips price per person — the cost is fixed regardless of group size. Private charters price per boat — the same vessel cost is divided across however many guests are in your group.

This matters a lot: a private phinisi at USD 3,500/night seems expensive vs an open trip at USD 285/person. But split across 8 guests, that’s USD 437/person/night — with the entire boat to yourselves, your own dates, and your own route. Crossover point is typically 4–6 guests, beyond which private becomes cheaper per person AND gives you full flexibility.

Format Comparison — Side by Side

Per-person rates assume mid-tier vessel and 6–10 guests. Per-boat rates are private charter for the whole vessel. All exclude park entrance fees (USD 200/day in 2026).

Compare-Trips FAQ

01

Can I switch format after booking?

Often yes, with availability. We’ll re-quote and adjust the deposit. Easier to switch UP (longer trip) than to switch DOWN.

02

What if my group is mixed (divers + non-divers)?

A 5D4N phinisi runs a parallel snorkel programme alongside the dive programme — both groups stay busy. We do this on most charters.

03

Is per-boat cheaper than per-seat?

Once your group hits 4–6 guests, private (per-boat) charter becomes cheaper per person than open-trip (per-seat) for the same length. We’ll quote both side-by-side on request.

04

What is the cheapest way to see Komodo?

Komodo Island Day Trip on a shared speedboat (USD 95pp). It misses the overnight magic but covers the headline stops in one day.
