How Much Does a Komodo Boat Charter Cost in 2027?

The table below covers the six boat classes travelers actually get quoted on, with whole-boat rates unless marked per person. Most operators quote per trip rather than per day; the 3D2N column shows the typical total for the classic three-day, two-night charter. All figures exclude Komodo National Park fees, which are itemized in the next section.

Boat classTypical guestsPer-day rate (USD)Typical 3D2N charter total (USD)
Speedboat (day charter)10–12100–150 per person, all-in day trip— (day use)
Standard phinisi2–8from ~800from ~2,400
Semi-phinisi (modern build, full AC ensuite)2–8800–1,500, typically the upper half of the band2,400–4,500
Luxury phinisi6–122,000–5,000+6,000–15,000+
Motor yacht6–142,000–5,000+; flagship vessels 2,950–4,400 per night6,000–15,000+
Superyachtup to 20~15,000–27,000 per night~30,000–54,000 (two nights)

Notes: standard and semi-phinisi overlap inside the researched USD 800–1,500 band — where a boat lands depends on hull age, cabin count and fit-out. Day-quoted classes are totaled at three charter days for 3D2N; night-quoted vessels bill by the two nights aboard. What Do Komodo National Park Fees Add on Top?

Park fees are charged per person, mostly per day, and are almost never inside the charter price — crews collect them in cash and pay the park on your behalf. The schedule below is the fee structure 2027 quotes are currently built on; the Komodo National Park fees page tracks the current official schedule in detail.

Fee (foreign visitors)Amount (IDR)
Park entry (marine park ticket), per person per day250,000
Conservation fee, per person per day100,000
Harbour fee (boat arrivals)25,000
Diving surcharge (divers only), per day25,000
Komodo Island trek (soft / long), per person400,000 / 450,000
Padar Island trekking, per person400,000
Ranger fee, per group (max 5 people)200,000
Drone permit (special activity)~2,000,000

The minimum boat-based, non-diving total is IDR 375,000 (~USD 22–25) per person per day before trekking fees; with island treks and shared ranger fees included, budget IDR 400,000–550,000 per foreign visitor per day. Indonesian citizens pay a lower domestic rate (entry IDR 50,000 weekday / 75,000 weekend, conservation IDR 10,000 per day), and tariffs run higher on Sundays and public holidays.

What Is Included in a Charter Price — and What Is Not?

On KomodoBoatCharter vessels, and across most licensed Labuan Bajo operators, the standard split looks like this:

Included as standard:

  • The boat, captain and full crew, including a dedicated cook on overnight charters
  • Fuel for the standard route
  • All meals, snacks, drinking water, tea and coffee
  • Snorkeling gear (masks, snorkels, fins)
  • Cabin with bedding on overnight formats

Excluded — budget separately:

  • Komodo National Park entry, activity and ranger fees (cash, per the table above)
  • Alcoholic drinks (sold aboard on many boats; some allow BYO)
  • Scuba diving and dive equipment
  • Drone permits
  • Crew tips — a common benchmark is IDR 100,000–200,000 per guest per day
  • Hotel and airport transfers on some packages

What Moves the Price Up or Down?

  • Season — July–August and holiday dates command premium rates; November–March green-season sailings run 20–40% lower with fewer boats on the water.
  • Boat class and age — the single biggest variable, as the class table shows: a modern ensuite fit-out can double the rate of an older hull of the same length.
  • Group size — whole-boat prices barely move with headcount, so per-person cost drops sharply as you fill cabins.
  • Route — fuel for the standard route is included, but major detours or extended sailing may add a surcharge; confirm custom routes in writing.
  • Day of week for fees — Indonesian national-park tariffs are typically higher on Sundays and public holidays, which operators factor into quotes.

Private Charter or Open Trip: Which Is Cheaper Per Person?

A shared 3D2N open trip averages USD 300–450 per person. Run the same math on a private mid-range phinisi at USD 2,400–4,500 per 3D2N trip: with 8 guests that is USD 300–560 per person, and with 12 guests roughly USD 200–375 per person — inside or below open-trip pricing, with the whole boat and a custom route included. Solo travelers and couples are the ones who genuinely pay the private-charter premium; groups mostly do not.

How Do You Pay — and How Much Cash Should You Carry?

Quotes come in USD or IDR, but the payment flow is consistent across licensed operators: a 20–50% deposit at booking by bank transfer, Wise or card payment link, with the balance settled before or on departure day — commonly in cash in Labuan Bajo. On the ground, everything is rupiah: park posts and remote ticket offices remain largely cash-based, and boats rarely process cards on board.

Plan on IDR 1–2 million cash per person to cover park and ranger fees plus incidentals, and add crew tips of IDR 100,000–200,000 per guest per day — handed to the captain at the end of the trip to share among the crew. Several major Indonesian bank ATMs operate in Labuan Bajo, but they can run dry in peak periods, so withdraw a day before departure rather than the morning you board.
