A private Komodo charter is priced per boat, not per head, so cost per person depends entirely on group size. Whole-boat rates run IDR 52 million (2D1N) to 280 million (4D3N luxury), averaging about IDR 133 million. Split across 8-12 guests, that lands most travellers at roughly IDR 5-13 million each before the IDR 650,000 park fee.
This is the single number that surprises everyone who researches a Komodo trip: the boat costs the same whether two people board it or twelve. That is why “cost per person” for a private charter is really a division problem, and your group size is the biggest lever you control. Below is the honest math we use with real guests every week, so you can budget before you enquire.
Why Komodo charters are priced per boat
Chartering means you rent the entire vessel, crew, cabins, and itinerary exclusively. Nobody else boards. The operator’s costs (fuel, captain, chef, dive guide, park permits, provisioning) are fixed the moment the boat leaves Labuan Bajo, so the quote is a flat whole-boat figure. A shared open-trip, by contrast, sells one cabin at a time (from IDR 3.55 million per cabin) and fills the boat with strangers. If privacy, a flexible route, and your own group matter, charter is the answer; you just divide the total yourself.
Whole-boat charter rates for 2026
Here is the realistic range across our fleet and comparable Komodo phinisi, quoted per boat for the full trip. Our own vessels, Ayvara and Malca, sit in the mid-to-premium bands.
| Boat tier | Duration | Whole-boat (IDR) | Approx. USD | Usual capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard phinisi | 2D1N | 52,000,000 | ~3,300 | 6-8 guests |
| Standard phinisi | 3D2N | 75,000,000 | ~4,700 | 8-10 guests |
| Premium phinisi | 3D2N | 130,000,000 | ~8,200 | 10-12 guests |
| Luxury phinisi | 4D3N | 280,000,000 | ~17,500 | 12-14 guests |
| Superyacht (per night) | Per night | ~72,000,000+ | USD 4,500-9,000 | 10-16 guests |
Average charter spend across our real bookings lands near IDR 133 million per trip, which tells you most guests choose the premium 3D2N band and fill it with friends or family.
The per-person math by group size
Take a premium 3D2N phinisi at IDR 130 million. Watch how the per-person price collapses as you add people:
| Group size | Cost per person (charter only) | + Park fee IDR 650k |
|---|---|---|
| 2 guests | 65,000,000 | 65,650,000 |
| 4 guests | 32,500,000 | 33,150,000 |
| 6 guests | 21,700,000 | 22,350,000 |
| 8 guests | 16,250,000 | 16,900,000 |
| 10 guests | 13,000,000 | 13,650,000 |
| 12 guests | 10,830,000 | 11,480,000 |
At two people you are paying roughly USD 4,100 each, effectively a private-yacht honeymoon rate. At twelve, that same boat drops to about USD 720 per person for three days aboard a premium vessel with a private chef. This is why groups of eight or more get the best value from Komodo charters: you unlock privacy and a bespoke route without the couple-sized bill.
What the park fee adds
Komodo National Park charges a mandatory entry fee of IDR 650,000 per person as of 2026. Since 1 April 2026 the park enforces a hard cap of 1,000 visitors per day, and entry is passport-linked with no walk-in tickets. Your operator books this in advance against each guest’s passport, so it is a fixed add-on per head on top of the divided charter price, exactly as shown in the table above. Budget it separately and never assume it is bundled unless the quote says so.
What is usually included
A proper private charter quote should cover the vessel end to end. Typical inclusions on our trips:
- Full-board meals prepared by an onboard chef, plus drinking water, tea and coffee
- Air-conditioned or fan cabins with linens (private cabins from ~IDR 6 million on open-trip; all cabins yours on charter)
- Licensed English-speaking guide and experienced crew
- Snorkelling gear, kayaks, and dinghy transfers to landing sites
- Fuel, port fees, and the standard Komodo-Padar-Rinca-Manta Point route
Usually excluded and worth confirming: the IDR 650,000 park entrance fee, ranger and conservation levies, scuba diving with tanks, and airport transfers in Labuan Bajo. Ask for the inclusion list in writing before you commit.
How to lock the best per-person price
Three moves reduce your per-head cost immediately. First, travel in a group of eight to twelve to spread the fixed boat rate as thin as possible. Second, book early: our median charter lead time is 143 days, and the best boats for peak dates (Italy, France, Spain and UK guests fill June-September fast) sell out months ahead. Third, match the boat tier to your group rather than overbuying cabins you will not use. For a full breakdown of vessels, routes and dates, see our private Komodo boat charter guide for 2026.
Payment is straightforward for international guests: a 50% deposit confirms your dates and holds the boat, with the balance due 14 days before departure. Most of our European travellers settle via Wise, Revolut, or PayPal, converted to IDR at booking.
