To join a Komodo boat charter in 2027 you need four things: a passport valid at least 6 months beyond arrival, an Indonesian entry route (most nationalities enter visa-free for 30 days or with a USD 35 visa on arrival), Komodo National Park e-tickets registered before departure, and enough cash for park fees. Your charter operator handles the park paperwork — the rest of this checklist is yours.
| Requirement | Who needs it | Where it comes from | When to sort it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passport, 6+ months validity | All international guests | Your government | Before booking flights |
| Indonesia entry (visa-free / VOA / e-Visa) | Depends on passport | Immigration on arrival or online | Check before travel; VOA at the airport |
| Komodo National Park e-tickets (SiORA) | Every park visitor | Registered by your operator | Before departure day |
| Park & ranger fees in cash (IDR) | Every park visitor | ATMs / money changers in Labuan Bajo | Before boarding |
| Travel insurance | Strongly recommended for all | Your insurer | At booking |
| Ident on boarding (passport / KTP) | All guests | Must match the harbour manifest | Bring the document you booked with |
Visa rules follow your passport, not your residence. As published in our Dubai–Komodo routing guide and GCC charter hub: UAE, Saudi, Kuwaiti, Bahraini, Omani and Qatari passports are generally visa-free for 30 days, as are US, UK, EU and Australian passports. Indian and Pakistani passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival (USD 35) at major airports including Labuan Bajo, or apply for an e-Visa online before travel. Rules change — verify your passport’s current status before flying.
Bring the passport you booked with (KTP for Indonesian nationals) — your name has to match the harbour master’s manifest — and keep your Komodo National Park e-tickets on your phone. Boarding happens at one of three points on the Labuan Bajo waterfront (the marina, Kampung Ujung jetty, or by tender from the anchorage), and your operator confirms which one at least a day ahead. The full walk-through is in our harbour boarding guide.
Komodo National Park runs on capped daily entries booked through the SiORA platform. On our charters, every guest is registered for e-tickets, ranger fees and zone permits before departure — nothing is left to arrange on arrival. If you want to understand the system itself, the SiORA booking guide explains it step by step, and the park fees page tracks the current official fee schedule (entry IDR 250,000/day, conservation IDR 100,000/day for foreign visitors, plus trekking and ranger fees).
Consult your doctor before travel; commonly recommended vaccines for the region include Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Japanese Encephalitis, and malaria prophylaxis may be advised for some itineraries. On the water, seasickness medication is provided on board and larger vessels noticeably reduce motion. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended — our insurance guide explains which coverage types actually matter on a boat trip in a remote national park.
Bring IDR 1–2 million in cash per person: park and ranger fees are collected in cash, crew tips run IDR 100,000–200,000 per guest per day, and boats rarely process cards. Labuan Bajo has ATMs, but they can run dry in peak season — details in the cash planning guide. Mobile signal fades once you sail beyond the harbour; select vessels carry Starlink holding 40–150 Mbps across the park, per our connectivity report.
Most Western and GCC passports enter Indonesia visa-free for 30 days; many other nationalities, including Indian passport holders, can use the USD 35 visa on arrival at Labuan Bajo airport or an e-Visa applied for online. Check your passport’s current entitlement before travel, as rules change.
Your charter operator does. Every guest on our boats is registered through the SiORA platform for e-tickets, ranger fees and zone permits before departure day. You only need to keep the e-tickets accessible on your phone and carry cash for the per-day park fees.
The passport you booked with — or KTP for Indonesian nationals — because your name must match the harbour master’s manifest. Day trips push off between 05:30 and 06:00, while overnight charters typically board between 10:00 and 13:00.
No vaccine is a formal entry requirement, but doctors commonly recommend Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Japanese Encephalitis for the region, and malaria prophylaxis is sometimes advised. Book a travel-health consultation four to six weeks before flying.
Budget IDR 400,000–550,000 per foreign visitor per day for park costs, and IDR 1–2 million per person overall to cover fees plus crew tips of IDR 100,000–200,000 per guest per day. Withdraw in Labuan Bajo before boarding — there is no ATM at anchor.
