The journey was spectacular. We sped across the clear blue waters, and within an hour, we saw the tell-tale splashes: dolphins! The captain skillfully maneuvered the boat, allowing us to get incredible views. Later, we pulled up to Taka Makassar, a pristine crescent of white sand stretching out into the turquoise. It truly lives up to its “Paradise Sandbank” moniker. We spent a good hour just walking the soft sand, feeling completely isolated in the best way possible. While we didn’t visit Padar Island this trip, I know it’s a stunning grassland-covered landscape connected by three blue bays – definitely on the list for next time. And of course, Komodo Island itself, home to an estimated population of about 1,000 Komodo dragons, is a must-see for anyone visiting the area.
