Our first major stop was Padar Island, and it’s truly as stunning as every photo suggests. We hiked up to the viewpoint, gazing down at the incredible vista of grassland-covered hills connected by three distinct blue bays. The contrast of the emerald green against the sapphire water was breathtaking. After Padar, we cruised to the famous Pink Beach. I’d always wondered about the color, and our guide explained it perfectly: the pink hue comes from tiny pieces of red coral that wash ashore from the surrounding reef, mixing with the white sand. It’s a subtle but unmistakable blush, especially under the clear Indonesian sun.
Underwater Wonders and Dragon Encounters
The afternoon brought more incredible sights. We made a stop at Manta Point, a renowned spot within Komodo National Park where Manta Rays gather year-round. We were lucky enough to swim alongside these majestic creatures, a truly exceptional experience. Later, we anchored at Taka Makassar, a pristine sandbar internationally known as The Paradise Sandbank. It felt like walking on a cloud. Our final, and perhaps most anticipated, stop was Komodo Island itself. Here, we embarked on a guided trek to see the legendary Komodo dragons. The island is home to an estimated population of about 1,000 of these magnificent, prehistoric reptiles. Seeing them in their natural habitat was both awe-inspiring and a little bit humbling.
