Labuan Bajo, nestled on Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, is your starting point for the Komodo National Park. We knew we wanted to experience it on our own terms, so a private boat charter from Labuan Bajo was the obvious choice. Operators are plentiful, with offices scattered throughout the town, making it easy to sort out your itinerary. We opted for a 3D2N Labuan Bajo–Komodo sailing trip, a popular option that typically kicks off around 10:00–11:00 on a Friday and wraps up around 12:00–13:00 on Sunday.
Padar Island Sunrise Hike and Beyond
Our priority was the Padar Island sunrise hike, and a private boat charter ensures you can time your arrival perfectly to beat the crowds. The views from the top are simply breathtaking as the sun paints the sky over the island’s unique three-colored beaches. Beyond Padar, our charter allowed us to explore the highlights at our own pace. We visited Rinca Island and Komodo Island to spot the famous dragons, though sightings are never guaranteed and require a park ranger. Pink Beach, or Long Pink Beach as it’s sometimes called, was another stunning stop, offering incredible photo opportunities and a chance to relax on its unique sands. Snorkeling was a big part of our trip, with stops at top spots like Taka Makassar and Manta Ray Point, where we hoped to encounter majestic manta rays.
Komodo National Park Itinerary
Our 3D2N itinerary was packed, starting with stops like Kelor and Kalong Island (Flying Fox Island) on the first day. Kalong is particularly special around sunset when thousands of bats emerge. Interestingly, a private sunset cruise specifically to Kalong Island can be booked from Labuan Bajo for around €139–€153 for a group of up to two. After exploring Padar, our charter continued to Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, Manta Point, and finally Kanawa, another fantastic snorkeling destination. While a private fast-boat day trip to Komodo can run around €864 for up to four people, and full-day speedboat tours are priced from €69–€113 per adult, the multi-day private charter offered a more immersive and flexible experience, allowing us to truly soak in the beauty of the Komodo National Park.
For arrangements, a specialist offering phinisi charter Komodo can coordinate this end to end.
